India is a land of colours and Rajasthan specially showcases a wide gamut of colours. The state, which is partly a desert region, reflects so much of life that it becomes almost impossible to miss a visit to it. However before visiting any place, it is imperative to acquaint yourself with the basic details about it. So here in this article we introduce you to the state of Rajasthan.

Rajasthan is a state in north west India. It is bordered by the country of Pakistan in the west and north west region. Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh occupy regions to the north and north east of Rajasthan whereas towards its east and southeast part are Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. The Indian state of Gujarat occupies the southwest region from Rajasthan. In totality, the state of Rajasthan occupies an area of 132,140 square miles.

Jaipur is the capital city. Other important destinations are Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, Bikaner, Udaipur, Mount Abu and Shekhawati region.

The history of Rajasthan reveals a lot of heroism, wars, bloodshed, sacrifices and chivalry. Rajput rulers were constantly fighting with each other to gain territorial advantage or to protect their region from being taken over by other neighbouring and powerful kings of India. These rulers built exemplary forts and palaces to support their political motives and personal lifestyle. Today, these forts and palaces are the main attraction for travellers.


The people of Rajasthan are a very lively lot. The colourful clothes they wear will immediately catch your attention. Their ornaments, folk dances, customs, traditions, cuisine and festivals will further mesmerise you. While on a tour to Rajasthan, the desert region which is a part of the famous Thar desert will bring alive the lifestyle of people of this region. The rural region of Rajasthan will yet again bring you closer to the basic life of the common people in the state.

Though Rajasthan with all its popularity is visited throughout the year, summers can get really hot. The best time to visit this state, then, is the winters when the the weather is at its pleasant best. The period of winter between Oct to March is the best to roam around and explore freely without getting hassled by the scorching sun. Moreover during this period the national parks are open, the luxury trains are in operation and the tourism festivals are on.
