Located in the district of Old Goa just nine km from the capital Panjim, this church is located in the vicinity of Se Cathedral. Earlier Church Assisi was the palace of the Archbishop. A church dedicated to a Holy Ghost was built in 1517-1521 AD which was later destroyed and Church Assisi was constructed on its remains in 1661.
Architecture: The architecture of Church Assisi is very magnificent and beautiful. It was built with the laterite blocks and was later lime plastered. The exterior of the Church is very much influenced from the Tuscan style while the entrance gate is designed keeping the Manuline style in mind. The interiors of this church is styled with the Mosaic- Corinthian style. It is painted beautifully with finely carved altars. One can also see the Bible depictions on the inside walls. A wooden statue of St Francis Assisi is placed in this cathedral. Other Attractions: Besides adoring this amazing church travelers can also visit other popular areas of this place.
